TRĂNG SƯƠNG 11/02/2025

Handicap day is a term commonly used in a small, amateur golf game, which helps balance the qualifications between golfers. This article will teach you how to calculate Handicap quickly, helping you confidently conquer every golf course.

1. What's a Handicap Day?

2. How many manual days are there?

There are many ways to calculate Handicap day by day according to different systems such as System 36, Callaway System, Peoria System, Stableford Points System, etc. In which, System 36's Day Handicap is the most used.

3. System 36 Day Handicap Calculation

System 36 is the simplest and most common method of calculating Handicap days based on player results on an 18-hole round of Golf.   To perform the System 36 calculation, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Summarize the points of each golf hole After each golf hole, the player will score his or her score on Scorecard (score card). At the end of the round, there will be scores of 18 holes, serving the process of calculating Handicap days and Net scores later.

Step 2: Convert points of each pit to System 36 points According to System 36, the score that Golfer scored on each hole will be based on the following formula:

Step 3: Calculate the total score according to System 36 Add up the System 36 scores of all golf holes to get a System 36 total score for the round.

Step 4: Calculate Date Handicap Handicap days are calculated by subtracting 36 from the total System 36 score:

Handicap Date = 36 – Total System Score 36

Step 5: Calculate the Net score according to System 36 Finally, you calculate the net score for the round by taking the Gross Score minus the Handicap day:

Net Score = Total Score – Handicap Date

For example, you play a round of golf with scores in 18 holes as follows:

Pits Par Number of sticks used System 36 Scores
1 Par 4 4 2 point
2 Par 4 5 1 point
3 Par 4 6 0 point
4 Par 3 3 2 point
5 Par 5 7 0 point
6 Par 4 4 2 point
7 Par 4 5 1 point
8 Par 3 3 2 point
9 Par 4 4 2 point
10 Par 4 5 1 point
11 Par 4 4 2 point
12 Par 4 6 0 point
13 Par 4 5 1 point
14 Par 3 3 2 point
15 Par 5 7 0 point
16 Par 5 4 2 point
17 Par 4 5 1 point
18 Par 5 4 2 point

Based on the table above, calculated:

Then, Calculate Handicap Date = 36 – Total System Score 36 = 36 – 23 = 13 points   Finally, calculate Net = Gross Score – Handicap Date = 84 – 13 = 71

So, according to System 36, you have a net score of 71 for this round against Handicap on the 13th.

4. When to use Handicap day?

You can use Handicap on days in fun golf events, small golf tournaments, amateurs or internal tournaments, etc. to determine the player's temporary Handicap on the day of the match.

But for tournaments, official Handicap is required, calculated according to standard systems such as World Handicap System, USGA Handicap System, etc. If you don't, Handicap won't be accepted. Because all day Handicap calculations are temporary and informal.

Handicap cannot replace official Handicap in professional golf tournaments, because:
