What is Proper Golf Attire for Men?

Anyone who has ever played or even watched golf understands the sense of formality that comes with the game. A big part of this tradition comes from the dress code, which is strictly observed. 1. No T-Shirts Collared shirts are required on the golf course. This is one of the most important rules. T-shirts are not allowed. Polo shirts are the preferred choice, offering comfort similar to a t-shirt but with the proper collar.

2. No Jeans Khakis or golf slacks are the standard. Regardless of color or fabric, a few rules apply:

Pants must have belt loops and be worn with a belt.
Avoid cuffs, as they collect sand.
Denim is not permitted.

Shorts are acceptable but should be tailored, similar to casual trousers, and fall just above the knee. They should not be too short or too tight, and like pants, must have belt loops and a belt.

3. Proper Shoes and Socks

Footwear is crucial both for performance and safety. Sandals or rubber shoes are not allowed. Golf shoes with soft spikes are required, as they prevent slipping and provide proper protection. These shoes should only be worn on the course—arrive in regular shoes and change in the locker room.

Socks should coordinate with your pants. When wearing shorts, choose lighter, low-cut socks around the ankles.
