What is the time limit for completing a golf scorecard?

Situation:

A golfer tells his playing partner that he took 10 strokes on a par-5 hole. However, a few holes later, he realizes he made a mistake and that he actually took only 9 strokes on that hole. Can he correct his score on the scorecard?

Reply:

In stroke play, a player has the right to correct their score on the scorecard at any time prior to the completion of the round and the submission of the card.

Match play has a different rule. According to Rule 3.2d(1), if a player records an incorrect score that affects the outcome of a hole, for example, a halved hole instead of a loss, or a win instead of a halved hole, or a win instead of a loss (assuming the error is up to two strokes), that player will lose the hole. If the incorrect score does not affect the outcome, the player will still lose the hole (if their opponent scores 8 or better) or win the hole (if their opponent scores 11 or worse).
